What is it about? ‘Asana’ is Sanskrit for seat or otherwise known these days as a physical pose or posture in yoga. In this book, I have broken down 23 of the most well known poses in detail, with benefits, contraindications and common misalignments.
Each posture is beautifully illustrated with flow lines indicating the directions of the ‘Pancha Vayu’ (look it up for more info on this).
This is intended as a workbook to learn from and to integrate into your own yoga practice. Therefore, the second half of the book has blank figures to add your own cues and notes to.
Who is it for?
- anyone who practices yoga and wants to refine their poses.
- anyone who is interested in practicing but hasn’t started yet. You could start by reading about some of the most common poses here.
- anyone who is a casual yoga practitioner and is confused by some postures. You can receive some clarification in your own time here.
- yogis who are undergoing their teacher training and would like to learn the specific and anatomical alignment cues to a variety of poses.
- anyone who just likes pretty pictures!

’Single Pointed Mind’ - in Yogic tradition and meditation, we practice to achieve oneness with the universe and to remind ourselves of the ultimate truth; we are all one and the same, interconnected through energy and ‘Prana’ the life force that permeates through every living being.
It is my hope that whoever wears this design, of a single star at the centre of the brow, is reminded of this truth. The centre of the brow, otherwise known as our ‘third eye’ or ‘Ajna Chakra’, is our mind’s eye. Representing inner wisdom, higher consciousness and the seat of our intuition. Acting as a ‘sixth sense’, our mind’s eye, sees all that cannot be gathered through our other more tangible sense organs. The important meeting point of the external and internal worlds, of the physical body and the subtle (spiritual/esoteric) body.
By bringing our attention to this area and concentrating on a singular point in our mind, we can engage in deep meditation and breathing practices that may help us on our path to spiritual liberation.
